Story and Plot (1963)
कहानी 1964 में हुए ढाका दंगों की पृष्ठभूमि पर आधारित है जिसके बाद पश्चिमी पाकिस्तान अलग होकर बांग्लादेश बना था. कहानी में ढाका के दंगो का प्रसंग लिया गया है जो की कहानी को दिलचस्प बनाता है।
ब्योमकेश और अजित जिस बिल्डिंग मे रहते हैं, उसी की एक कॉमन मेस मे बिल्डिंग के लोगों का आना-जाना लगा रहता है। बिल्डिंग मे तीन और लोग रहते हैं, भूपेश चटर्जी, बनमाली चंद्र और राम रॉय जो की साथ बैठ कर कभी कभी ब्रिज खेल कर अपना समय बिताते हैं। एक दिन भूपेश बाबू अजीत से मिलनते हैं और उसको ब्रिज खेलना का न्योता देते हैं। अजीत उनके घर जाता है और वहाँ अच्छा टाइम-पास होता है। इस समय ब्योमकेश घर मे नहीं है और किसी काम से कटक गया हुआ है।
इसी बीच एक घटना होती है। सबसे नीचे के फ्लोर पर रहने वाले नटवर के कमरे से एक धमाके की आवाज आती है। जाकर देखते हैं तो पता चलता है की नटवर की किसी ने गोली मार कर हत्या कर दी है और हत्यारे मे पिस्तौल खिड़की के पास छोड़ दी है।
भूपेश बाबू का कहना है की वो धमाके की आवाज सुनते ही नटवर के कमरे मे पहुचे थे और जब खिड़की से उन्होंने देखा तो एक गेरुआ रंग का शॉल पहने एक आदमी भागता दिखाई दिया।
पुलिस केस की तफ़तीश मे लग जाती है और तभी ब्योमकेश कटक से वापस आ जाता है।
The Story is based on Dhaka Roits in 1964 when East Pakistan was divided as Bangladesh. The story takes a reference to the Dhaka riots that make it very interesting.
Byomkesh and Ajit reside in the building in which a common mess of the people of the building keeps visiting. Three more people live in the building, Bhupesh Chatterjee, Banmali Chandra, and Ram Roy who often spend their time playing bridge. One day Bhupesh Babu meets Ajit and invites him to play bridge. Ajit goes to his house and has a nice time there. At present, Byomkesh is not at home and is cut off from work.
Meanwhile, an incident occurs. A banging sound comes from the room of Natwar who lives on the lower floor. After going to see, it is revealed that Natwar has been shot dead by someone and the killer left the pistol near the window.
Bhupesh Babu says that he reached the room of Natwar on hearing the blast and when he looked through the window, a man wearing an ocher shawl appeared.
The police gets involved in the case and only Byomkesh returns from Cuttack.
